2009 Alaska Cruise

During our cruise to Alaska we did not have internet access so I did not blog about the cruise. Then when we got back I guess the thrill was gone and I have not bolgged until now. We cruised during the week of 8/29/09 - 9/5/09. We started in Seattle and made 4 stops on our round trip back to Seattle.

In Seattle they feed you, let you rest for a while and then there's always the life boat drill. The weather was great.

We had Sunday at sea and Monday we stopped at Ketchikan. We saw eagles, salmon and loggers

Next stop was Juneau. From there we cruised to the glaciers.

Next stop was Skagway. There were 4 very large cruise ships in Skagway that day. That puts about 8,000 people in town at once. That's a lot of people in a very small town.

Next stop was Prince Rupert in Canada. We saw eagles, a lighthouse and whales.

Lots of whales. They were feeding. The guide called it bubble net feeding. One whale goes down and swims around blowing bubbles that cause the fish to come the the surface and the other whale come up under the fish and feed on they. The birds know where the whales are doing this and follow them. This lets us know where the whales will be coming up.

Then they brought us home and the cruise was over.

Thanks for putting the pictures on your blog of Alaska. It is really interesting.

Rod, your mission is very unique. And I am sure very challenging. I have to admit that I love your mission too.
