The Mortensen Owl
The “Owl” was made by Forland Mortensen in 19?? (I don’t know when)
It was entered into the prestigious Fremont County Fair in St. Anthony Idaho and won the coveted “First Place Ribbon”
Then it was entered in the even more prestigious Madison County Fair in Rexburg Idaho and won the even more coveted “Prime Quality Ribbon”
Upon Forland’s passing the “Owl” ownership was passed with ceremony and honors to Rosena Mortensen Palmer.
Upon Rosena’s passing the “Owl” ownership was passed to Rella Mortensen Brown (the youngest sibling).
Rella did not “pass” but express concerns that she could not deal with the momentous responsibility of the “Owl” ownership. At a meeting of the siblings (and one grandson) Nina expressed an interest in all things owlish. That’s all it took, the “Owl” ownership passed from Rella to Nina (in other words Rodney Ricks, because I am in the Mortensen line).
On May 25, 2009 (Memorial Day) an “Owl” meeting was convened at the head stone of Dean & Carma Ricks. Representing the family were one sibling and 2 grandsons. At this meeting Aunt Vera Mae suggested that the occasion of Mary Anne’s 50 ½ birthday celebration would be a excellent time to pass the “Owl ownership” to the youngest grandchild in the Carma Ricks family (no need to wait for Rodney to “pass”). The motion was voted on and passed unanimously.
Mary Anne, upon receipt of this document and the included “Owl”, you are now the proud owner of the “Mortensen Owl” with all the associated benefits and responsibilities. Display the “Owl” proudly as all the owners before you have.
